Zimoyeast and Fitomed – High-Producing Cows

Summary

The trial conducted on the supplementation with Zimoyeast and Fitomed, has demonstrated significant benefits in terms of production efficiency in a dairy herd. The study involved two groups of animals, one control and one treated with Zimoyeast and Fitomed, and was carried out during the summer of 2023, a critical period for thermal stress in animals. The results showed an improvement in gastrointestinal efficiency, with a reduction in signs of mucosal inflammation and greater digestibility of fibers in the treated group. In addition, the IOFC index, which measures the gain compared to the cost of feeding, showed significantly better values ​​in the treated group, indicating an increase in milk production at the same feed costs. This makes the supplementation with Zimoyeast and Fitomed effective in improving the profitability of production, offering a sustainable solution to optimize production and reduce costs.

The results suggest that the use of Zimoyeast and Fitomed can contribute not only to animal welfare, but also and above all to the economic efficiency of farms, making it a valid option for large livestock farms with high production and/or in the presence of stressful conditions.

Summary

The trial was conducted on a new formulation of the spent yeast product called ZIMOYEAST KM PLUS, with the aim of verifying and confirming the product's effectiveness in terms of ruminal microbial metabolism in high-yielding dairy cattle.
Increasing rumen metabolism in cattle is crucial for optimizing health, productivity, and, consequently, the economic sustainability of the farm. The rumen acts as a biological fermentation chamber, where a vast and complex population of microorganisms (bacteria, protozoa, fungi) breaks down complex nutrients (cellulose, etc.) into simpler, more bioavailable compounds. Efficient rumen metabolism translates into better use of the energy and proteins present in the forage, leading to tangible benefits in terms of both health and production performance.
There are various strategies to stimulate and improve rumen metabolism, and nutrition plays the main role. The use of high-quality forages, rich in digestible fiber, and the addition of specific nutritional supplements, such as dormant yeasts, can significantly improve the rumen environment and microbial function. This trial aimed to verify whether supplementing the daily diet with specific dormant yeasts could be a valid strategic choice. The trial compared four different dormant yeast formulations, their efficacy being experimentally monitored in the laboratory.
Increasing rumen metabolism is not just a livestock goal, but a key component of sustainable and profitable livestock farming, which enhances animal welfare and minimizes environmental impact.
